2017 Agona Nsaba - City & Birth Place of D.E.G.C.A.

🌍 Welcome to Agona Nsaba — The Community Behind DEGCA
Agona Nsaba, located in the Agona East District of Ghana’s Central Region, is the home of David E. Gregory Christian Academy (DEGCA). It is a community rich in faith, culture, history, hospitality and a strong sense of togetherness.
🙏 Why Nsaba Is Known as the “City of God”
Nsaba has a special spiritual identity that has been shaped by Christian leadership and community prayer. According to the local history shared with us, the late King, who was also a bishop and founder of the All Nations Pentecostal Church, helped establish the name “City of God” and encouraged a culture of prayer within the community.
One of the traditions associated with this heritage is Wednesday community prayer, when people gather at community centres to pray together.
For DEGCA, this spiritual heritage is meaningful because our work is rooted in serving children, families and the wider community with love, compassion and purpose.
🌍 A Welcoming Community for International Volunteers
Agona Nsaba offers international volunteers an opportunity to experience Ghana beyond the major cities and tourist centres.
Volunteers can live and work alongside local people, interact with children, participate in community activities, experience Ghanaian hospitality and learn about everyday life and culture.
The community also provides opportunities to experience local food, traditional clothing, music, dance, farming, crafts, celebrations and community festivals.
At DEGCA, we believe that international volunteering should be a two-way cultural exchange—volunteers come to serve and learn, while the community welcomes them and shares its culture and way of life.
🎉 Culture and Festivals
Ghana is famous for its vibrant traditional culture and festivals, and the Central Region is particularly rich in cultural celebrations. Among the major festivals in the region are the Aboakyer Festival in Winneba, Fetu Afahye in Cape Coast, Bakatue in Elmina and Odambea in Saltpond. (Visit Ghana)
These celebrations provide visitors with opportunities to experience traditional leadership, music, dancing, colourful clothing, food and community gatherings.

From the prayer gatherings of Nsaba to the traditions of the Central Region and the historic and natural attractions of Ghana, we invite international volunteers and partners to come experience our community, serve with us and become part of the DEGCA family.
